Six things we love about living in Hove

With phase one of the stunning new Tate Residences underway at the Sussex Cricket Ground, we thought we’d ramp up the excitement by sharing six things we love about Hove.

Hove's slightly more tranquil pace of life (compared to neighbouring Brighton) makes it a very desirable place to live. Even more so when the 37 high-end, elegant apartments are completed. You’ll have landmark living, in a landmark location, with plenty to do.

Hove has us bowled over, so why not read the six things we love about this bohemian town.

Cricket

If somebody were to ask us if we liked cricket, we’d say no. We don't like cricket, we love it (have we got 10cc’s Dreadlock Holiday in your head now?).

The historic 1st Central County Ground sits proudly in the centre of Hove, and The Tate Residence is an iconic masterpiece that redefines apartment living.

The striking architecture and spacious living is ideal for cricket fans. In fact, the sixth floor will feature a communal rooftop terrace that oversees the ground, meaning you can catch all the action as the Sussex Sharks welcome other county cricket teams. You'll also be able to watch some of the best cricketers in the world when England come to visit during one-day and test match series.

Food

If you enjoy dining out, then you'll be spoilt for choice with places to eat in Hove. There are some lovely places to grab a bite to eat on the seafront, but the tempting little eateries on Church Road are a must.

Wild Flor is one of our favourites. It is a relaxed neighbourhood restaurant with two spacious dining rooms. Wild Flor offer two or three-course menus that feature delicious dishes that are beautifully paired with world-class wines.

Drink

Just as you’re spoilt for choice with places to eat, you’ll also love the variety of places you can enjoy a drink or two!

Our go-to place is The Gin Tub. They boast an impressive selection of gins and gin-based cocktails from around the world, and the interior is superb. Also, each table has a vintage rotary telephone which means you can place your drinks order, and you will be served at your table. Let the fun be-gin!

Watersports

If you like to try new things and enjoy getting your adrenaline pumping, you'll love Lagoon Watersports. Head down to Western Lawns, and you'll find Hove Lagoon.

It's the perfect place to learn how to SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard), wakeboard, kayak, and windsurf. Taster sessions run at various times of the year, and their gift vouchers make the best birthday present.

Theatre

If you’re looking for a slower ball - something a little more chilled, then Brighton Open Air Theatre is just the ticket. Not far from The Tate Residences, the amphitheatre at Hove Green has a capacity of 425 and puts on live plays, live music, and open-air cinema from May through to September. Their freshly made sweet and salted popcorn is delicious.

Culture

Culture is ever-present, with theatres, historic landmarks, and modern attractions, but if you’re new to the area, then you might be curious to find out about Hove’s history.

If so, a visit to the Hove Museum, a Victorian villa with an Indian twist, is a must. The twist comes from the Jaipur Gate, which was commissioned for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition held at South Kensington in 1886 and then donated to the museum in 1926. It is open all year and features lots of exhibitions, including the Wizard’s Attic, Film, and Contemporary Craft.

A first-class century
