Costa Coffee is the latest national chain to set up in Broadwater, Worthing
Our commercial team has recently completed lease terms with Costa Coffee, after securing a change of planning use on new premises at 9 – 11 Broadwater Street West, which will now join their 2000 plus coffee shops across the UK. We first heard of Costa’s initial location requirements back in 2015, and have been working with them for the last 2 years to help find a 2,500 sq ft space that would suit their business needs.
The landlord; Ganco Asset Management, who purchased the shopping parade through Michael Jones Commercial in 2012, had been given notice by a previous tenant to vacate and instructed the practice to remarket. As soon as the shop became available, Costa immediately registered an interest with the additional request of extending the existing unit. We negotiated this request between our client and the landlord, and through a process involving separation works and planning permission, we successfully agreed terms that both parties were happy with.
Costa Coffee has signed a new 14-year lease and construction work has commenced, with the new coffee shop due to open in time for Christmas. It will employ 8 members of staff (4 full time and 4 part time) and is the latest major food and drink outlet to move into Broadwater, following the likes of Subway, Domino’s Pizza and a recent KFC expansion.
Jon Justice, Assistant Manager of Michael Jones Commercial commented “Broadwater has undergone a large transformation in the last 5 years since Worthing College moved in. We have been involved in leasing over 8,000 sq ft of retail space in the last 18 months and it’s clear to see by our recent letting, that major occupiers now have Broadwater firmly on their radar. With further requirements for the area, we are keen to hear from landlords or existing tenants who may be looking to successfully let out their properties”.
