Five essential apps to simplify your house move

Whether you’re waiting to move into your new home, you’re still on the hunt for ‘the one’, or you’ve just moved in, time can be difficult to come by when there’s so much to research, plan and organise.

Thankfully however, there is help available. We’ve hand-picked a selection of five of our favourite apps that you can download onto your smartphone, each tasked with making your life a little easier.

Ideal for: Design ideas for your new home

#1. Houzz Interior Design Ideas

Free on Android | iPhone

Houzz is one of the most popular, fully-featured interior design apps on the market, offering inspired designs for virtually any taste you can imagine. You’re free to explore and ‘save to favourites’ over 14 million images, all categorised by style, location, room and budget.

Not only can you build up your collection of ideas, but Houzz will connect you with over 55,000 UK industry and renovation professionals, allowing you to contact them to enlist their services or else browse through millions of items from thousands of retailers.

Ideal for: Planning your next move

#2. Moving Planner

£0.82 on Android only

Moving Planner lets you quickly schedule and plan your move weeks ahead of time utilising checklists and pre-defined tasks. So, if you’re a stickler for organisation, or simply need a helping hand getting your thoughts in order; this app is for you.

Schedule in everything from research on your new neighbourhood to building a complete inventory of your home contents, each divided by room and box.

Ideal for: Finding the safest neighbourhoods

#3. Crime Map England and Wales

Free on Android | iPhone

Moving to new pastures can be a daunting prospect. Safety is often a key concern when deciding where to settle down, and for families especially; keeping children away from danger is a top priority.

That’s where Crime Map England and Wales can help; built around the UK Police database, it maps out crime statistics across different neighbourhoods, covering minor to major offences and combining them to give a ‘risk factor’.

Ideal for: Visualising the new colour of your walls without spending a penny

#4. Dulux Visualiser

Free on Android | iPhone

If you’ve ever found yourself stuck deciding which colour to paint the bedroom wall, this is the app for you. Using your phone’s camera, you’re able to capture an image of the room and ‘virtually’ test any colour on the walls and ceiling instantly.

When you’ve found the right red or the perfect purple, you can then save it as a custom colour scheme and pick up the exact shade in your local Dulux store.

Ideal for: Finding out not just ‘how far’ to work, but ‘how long it takes to get there’

#5. Mapumental Property

Free to use on your internet browser

Let’s say you need to be closer to your new job; the reason for moving is to cut down the time it takes to get there, not necessarily the distance. You might be closer to work, but it may still take longer due to heavy congestion or extended train times.

That’s where the brilliance of Mapumental Property works its magic. It relies firmly on its ability to calculate the time it takes to reach your workplace from any property, using traffic statistics and public transport times for improved accuracy.

If you would like further advice on planning your move, a free property valuation or advice on the local area, our property experts at Michael Jones & Company are on hand to help.
