Fun things to do in West Sussex with the kids this Summer

The school summer holidays are here and whilst we like the idea of spending quality family time together, long, lazy summer days and no more rushing around in the morning to do the school run, we also know that the thought of entertaining and caring for the kids over six long weeks can seem a little daunting.

So, to avoid the constant chants of ‘I’m bored’ or the inevitable meltdowns because your little darlings dared to look at one another, let us save you frantically searching Google for ‘fun things to do with kids near me’ with this helpful guide of family friendly attractions in West Sussex to keep your little (and big ones) entertained!

Fun and FREE activities

1. Mewsbrook Park, Rustington
One of our favourite parks to visit in the local area, as there is simply so much to see and do. Let the kids run free in the adventure playground, take a walk around the pond and feed the ducks or simply sit back and relax on one of the large grass areas while the kids take part in an impromptu game of football.

2. Crabbing in Littlehampton Beach
With little or no expertise required, discover the fun of crabbing along the River Arun or in the boating pool next to Harbour Park. Simply dip your bait in the water (we’ve heard they quite like bacon bits) and see what you catch – endless hours of fun!

3. Southwater Dinosaur Park, Horsham
This hidden gem is perfect for families of all ages and abilities. Enjoy a stroll around the lake, follow the footprints to the Dinosaur Island play area – an absolute must for any dinosaur loving child or adult. There’s also picnic areas and you can enjoy a paddle at the ‘beach’.

4. The Beach
A summer holiday isn’t complete without a trip to the beach, so grab your buckets and spades and get ready to build sandcastles galore, catch some waves or search rock pools for hidden underwater treasures. Take advantage of the fact that we live on the doorstep of some of the UK’s finest beaches including the unspoilt sandy beach of West Wittering.

Down on the farm

5. Fishers Farm, Wisborough Green
So much more than a farm, this family run farm park offers everything from interactive animal experiences to exciting rides, outdoor adventures including ‘Splash Attack’ and ‘Sky Fall’, plus an indoor soft play area for when our very British weather decides to pay a visit.

With so much to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Start your day meeting the farm animals, enjoy a woodland walk and spend time in the natural woodland playground and end the day in the sand and water area building sandcastles and generally getting very wet and messy.

Splishing and a splashing

There’s a large swimming pool for adults / big kids and a great paddling pool for the little ones. Have a day of outdoor play in the swimming pool, work up an appetite in the adventure play park and then after all that fun enjoy a delicious picnic lunch or grab an ice-cream from the café.

For when it’s raining…

11. Watch a film at the cinema
With so many great blockbuster family movies out this summer, there really is something for everyone. Catch up with Woody and co in Toy Story 4, see the return of the Lion King (we’ve watched it and it’s amazing!) and for children that love Dora the Explorer, check out this film as the beloved character comes to the big screen.
Choose from Worthing’s Dome or Connaught, Chichester’s Cineworld or Brighton’s Odeon or the Marina.

12. Let’s bowl
Great fun for all the family, you can’t beat a little friendly competition to bring the family together! We happen to know AMF Bowling in Worthing have a great family bowling offer from £19.29 for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Michael Jones are a great company who really helped us find a fantastic place to rent. Lisa and Harry were especially very helpful at taking our phone calls and responding really quickly to questions we had. We are really pleased with our … More new place and would recommend Michael Jones to anyone.

This is not about Michael Jones but one of their employee, Rob Stewards . Shout out you man and well done for the great service . Much appreciated. Keep it up . Rob was in charge of sorting thing out between my last landlord and myself … More at the end of the tenancy and helping return my deposit . For everyone renting , you know how it is always trying to get that money back. The landlords are always trying to make up stories in order to hold a chunk of your money . I cannot thank Rob enough for his outstanding wisdom in helping us to reach an agreement and avoiding dispute resolution . Although in the middle of the case , Rob went on holiday and things were not resolved as one of his colleague or rather manager tried . And my gut feeling was surely , Rob will get it sorted after his holiday and I was right . He got a compromise in no time .Many thanks Rob . God bless you and keep up the good work .
